The One in a Million Marathon Challenge is an initiative founded by Digital Smartworks, LLC, a small business located in the suburbs of Kansas City. Jim and Kristine Simmermon, both owners and operators of Digital Smartworks, conceived this idea in fall of 2009. As part of their business plan, Digital Smartworks maintains a commitment to support their community by creating a family-friendly work environment and becoming actively involved in community organizations. Their primary focus for community involvement is fitness and children's causes. The One in a Million Marathon Challenge was a perfect way to combine their passion for running and fitness with their website and software business, all while being able to give back to the community.
Kristine Simmermon is a 5-time marathon finisher and is currently working on her sixth marathon in 2010. She has raised thousands of dollars for charity since her marathon hobby began in 2004.
Jim Simmermon is an avid cyclist, and began running half marathons in 2007 with his wife. He has completed two half marathons and hopes to complete the Seattle to Portland Bike Ride in June 2010 and a marathon in fall 2010.
